Thursday 29 and Friday 30 October the High Commissioner on National Minorities together with the Serbian Chairmanship and the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights organise a meeting on the contribution by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to the Protection of National Minorities.
Because of FUEN’s expertise and prominent role in the protection of the European minorities, and the experience that FUEN has with good practices on cross-border cooperation, FUEN President Hans Heinrich Hansen has been invited to sit on a panel focusing on national minorities in inter-state relations and the High Commissioner’s Bolzano/Bozen Recommendations.
President Hansen will also give FUEN’s opinion on the state of minority protection in Europe and speak about his own experiences in positive developments that took place in the German-Danish border region.
The OSCE meeting focuses in particular on the recommendations and guidelines issued by the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities over the past 20 years. During two days the participants will take stock of the OSCE contribution to the protection of national minorities, especially through the prism of these guidelines and recommendations. In particular, it will assess the achievements as well as explore challenges and identify ways to address remaining implementation gaps.
