EUROPEADA 2016 – Green light for the official draw on 14 December 2015

- Press releases - Special location: Group draw in the Salewa Tower in Bolzano/Bozen

On Monday 14 December 2015 the group draw for the EUROPEADA 2016 will take place in Bolzano/Bozen, South Tyrol.

The organisation committee led by Siegfried Stocker chose a special place for the event. The Salewa Tower – a climbing hall resembling a mountain made fully from glass. “It is a unique place for a group draw; it symbolises the landscape of the Dolomite Mountains. We, the hosts, want to place our home region, South Tyrol, in the limelight from the start and create a feeling of joyous anticipation for next year.”

At the group draw delegations from the teams from all over Europe are expected, and also representatives of the media, other cooperation partners, sponsors and guests from South Tyrol.

After the group draw will be finished, the delegations of the teams will be received by the associations in the different playing sites for the group round; in the villages of Sand, Niederdorf, Olang, St. Martin, Pfalzen, Ahrntal, Mühlwald and Enneberg. Here the accommodations and playing sites will be visited.

“It is part of our concept that the teams and the local associations get into close contact with each other, already in the preparation stage. The local organisers and FUEN want to involve the teams and the cooperation partners in the preparations. We do this, because we consider that the teams are the best ambassadors of this European tournament in their own home regions”, says Siegfried Stocker.

In the men’s tournament the teams are drawn into six groups. The women’s tournament will be played in two groups.

The EUROPEADA is the European Football Championship of the autochthonous, national minorities, which will take place at the same time as the official European Football Championship EURO 2016 in France.

The organiser of the event is the Federal Union of European Nationalities, or FUEN, which represents about 90 organisations of autochthonous, national minorities. The local hosts of the EUROPEADA 2016 are the German-speaking South Tyroleans and the Ladin minority.

The local organisation committee working within the association of South Tyrolean Sports Associations (VSS) is currently preparing the group-draw that will take place in Bolzano/Bozen on 14 December 2015.
