Judgment of the Minority SafePack Initiative on 3 February 2017

- Press releases

The judgment in the case of the Minority SafePack Initiative, the European Citizens’ Initiative for the minorities in Europe, will be announced by the European Court of Justice in Luxemburg on 3 February 2017.

The European Court of Justice informed the initiators earlier this week.

Last year, on 16 September 2016, the oral hearing took place in Luxemburg. It was the last stage of a court case that was initiated by the European minorities against the decision by the European Commission already in the autumn of 2013, after the European Commission decided to reject the application to register the European Citizens’ Initiative for the minorities in Europe.

Based on the hearing in September, the European minorities have good hopes for a positive outcome. If the Court decides to annul the rejection decision from 2013, this will mean that the European Commission will have to take a new decision, which must take into account the judgment of the Court.
